The following information is from the organizers of the “Afrikanistentag 2007” in Vienna:
As there is no overall theme of the conference, papers with a focus on various fields of African Studies (primarily linguistics, literature studies, history) will be considered.
You are invited to submit proposals for individual papers or for panels. In the case of a panel proposal, please send an abstract (maximum 500 words) which outlines the theme of the panel. You may submit the panel proposal together with the proposals of the papers to be presented in this panel. Or, you may also submit the panel proposal on its own. The call for papers to this panel will be announced on this webpage.
The deadline for the submission of abstracts for open panels is January 31, 2007; for complete panels or individual papers the deadline is March 31, 2007. Each panel session will last two hours (120 minutes) and can accommodate up to four papers. To allow enough time for discussion, each presentation should last no longer than 20 minutes.
The conference fee is € 30,- (students € 15,-). The fee has to be paid on July 23, 2007 at the beginning of the conference. We regret that there is no conference budget for travel and hotel expenses. You will have to cover your own travel and accommodation costs. A list with recommended hotels and hostels in Vienna will soon be available on this site. Accommodation has to be booked individually.
